Your account and sign-in

Sign-in options, passkeys, Slack, and your notification preferences.

This guide is for everyone who signs in to ScoutKeep, parents and leaders alike. It covers the ways to sign in, passkeys, your contact details and sign-in email, connecting Slack, and choosing how ScoutKeep reaches you.

To find your settings, open Settings from the menu. It has two pages: Account and Notifications. Leaders find the same two pages at the top of their Settings menu.

ScoutKeep doesn't use passwords. On the sign-in page, you can:

  • Use an email code. Enter the email address linked to your ScoutKeep account under Email address and select Send code. Enter the six-digit code from the email under Verification code and select Continue. If the email doesn't arrive, select Send a new code.
  • Use a passkey. Select Sign in with a passkey and follow your device's prompt. This appears only on browsers that support passkeys, and only works once you've added one (see below).
  • Use Slack. If your pack has connected Slack, Sign in with Slack appears when you reach the sign-in page from your pack's portal or website. Choose your pack's Slack workspace. The first time, your Slack email must match the email you use for ScoutKeep.

If you belong to more than one pack, you'll see Choose your unit after signing in. Select the one you want to open.

Tip: If Slack sign-in doesn't find you, sign in with an email code instead. You can link your Slack account afterward (see below).

Update your contact details

Open Settings, then Account.

  1. Under Your contact details, enter your Phone number. Everyone who signs in needs a phone number on file.
  2. Select Save contact details.

If you sign in without a phone number on file, ScoutKeep asks for one before you continue. Enter it and select Save contact details.

If you're a parent and your contact details are incomplete, a reminder with an Update contact details link appears at the top of the portal until you fill them in.

Change your sign-in email

Your sign-in email is also your family contact email. Changing it updates it in every pack you belong to.

  1. On the Account page, under Sign-in and security, select Change email.
  2. If ScoutKeep asks you to confirm it's you, select Verify sign-in, enter the code sent to your current email, and select Verify and continue.
  3. Enter your New email address and select Send confirmation links.
  4. Open the confirmation email sent to each of your old and new addresses and select Confirm email change. The links expire after 10 minutes. Each one opens a Finish your email change page with a Return to account settings link.
  5. Come back to Account and select Finish email change.

Your email stays the same until you finish the last step.

Set up a passkey

A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face, device PIN, or security key instead of waiting for an email code. Your passkeys work across all your packs.

  1. On the Account page, select Manage passkeys next to Passkeys.
  2. If you haven't signed in within the last five minutes, ScoutKeep asks you to verify it's you first. Select Send code, enter the code from your email, and select Continue.
  3. Select Add a passkey and follow your device's prompt.
  4. Give the new passkey a name you'll recognize, like "My phone", and select Save name.

To rename a passkey later, select Rename. To delete one, select Remove, then Remove passkey. You can always still sign in with an email code.

Connect Slack to your account

If your pack has connected Slack, you can link your own Slack account so other families can message you from the member directory. Everyone in your pack can see the account you link.

  1. Open My Family from the menu and find Linked accounts.
  2. Select Link Slack and approve in Slack, choosing your pack's workspace.

Linking only confirms which Slack account is yours. ScoutKeep can't post or read messages as you. Select Unlink Slack to remove it from the directory. Linked accounts appear only if your pack also uses the member directory. For more, see The member directory.

ScoutKeep can send you Slack messages once it knows which Slack account is yours. Linking does that, and so does signing in with Slack or opening the ScoutKeep app in Slack with the same email you use for ScoutKeep. Unlinking only removes you from the directory; Slack messages keep working.

Choose how ScoutKeep reaches you

Open Settings, then Notifications.

Under Delivery channels, choose where updates from your pack go. If your pack hasn't connected Slack, everything comes by email. If it has, check Email, Slack, or both, and select Save preferences. At least one has to stay checked. Your choice applies to every notice, including task updates, charges and payments, and equipment requests. When ScoutKeep can't reach you in Slack with one of these notices, because it doesn't know your Slack account, your pack disconnected Slack, or Slack won't deliver the message, it emails you that notice instead. You never get the same notice by email twice.

Under Event reminders, choose whether and how you hear about events your family is going to: reminders before the event and a question about how it went afterward. To stop both, uncheck Remind me about events and select Save event reminders. This only affects you; other adults in your family still get theirs. You can turn it back on anytime, and you'll be reminded about upcoming events again.

While Remind me about events is checked, choose when you hear under When to remind you. Your pack's reminder times are used unless you select Choose my own times and pick up to three, such as 2 days and 3 hours before. Your times replace the pack's for you only; select the option that uses your pack's times to go back. Then select Save event reminders.

Also while it's checked, check Email, Slack direct message, or both under How reminders reach you, then select Save event reminders. Slack messages need ScoutKeep to know your Slack account (see above); when it can't reach you in Slack, it emails you instead. If you uncheck both, reminders appear only in your notifications in ScoutKeep.

Leaders who send announcements also see Post to Slack as you here. See Connecting Slack and Announcements and notifications.
