Volunteering and tasks
Sign up to help and keep track of jobs assigned to you.
This guide is for parents and guardians. It shows how to sign up for volunteer jobs and keep track of the tasks your pack's leaders assign to you.
Tasks appear only if your pack uses them.
Two kinds of tasks
Leaders set up tasks in one of two ways, shown in the Assignment type column:
- Volunteer places are open jobs anyone who can see the task can sign up for, like bringing snacks or driving to the Fall campout. A task can have several places.
- One responsible adult tasks are assigned to a specific person by a leader, like collecting permission slips for the Wolf den.
Find your tasks
Open Tasks in the sidebar, under Activities. The list shows each task's title, type, due date, and how many places are filled, such as "2 of 4 places filled."
- Use the Status menu to switch between Open, Closed, and Canceled tasks.
- Check Assigned to me to see only your own tasks.
Tasks assigned to you also appear on your family home page with an Open button. See Your family home.
When a task is tied to an event, the event's page in the calendar shows a Tasks count. Expand it to see that event's open tasks. See Calendar and RSVPs.
Volunteer for a task
- Open Tasks and select the task.
- Read the description, due date, and any checklist or links.
- Select Volunteer.
You're added to the task's assignments. If every place is already taken, the Volunteer button is greyed out.
Work on your task
When you open a task that's yours, you'll see Your assignment with your status. Depending on how the leader set it up, the task may include:
- A Checklist you can tick off as you go.
- Links to forms or other pages you need.
- Documents you can download or add to. Select Upload document to attach a file of up to 5 MB.
Use Add comment and Post comment at the bottom to leave a note for the leader and others on the task. Everything that happens on the task is listed under Activity.
Mark your work complete
- Open the task.
- Optionally type a note in Reason (optional).
- Select Mark my work complete.
Your status changes to Completed. If you marked it complete by mistake, select Reopen my work.
Step back from a task
If you can't do a task after all:
- For a volunteer task, select Withdraw.
- For a task assigned to you, select Decline assignment.
You can add a note in Reason (optional) first, so the leader knows why. The person who created the task is notified so they can find someone else.
Reminders
ScoutKeep lets you know when:
- You're given a task.
- A task with a due date is coming due soon.
- A task is overdue and you haven't marked it complete.
The leader decides how far ahead the reminders go out. You'll find them in your Notifications list, and by email or Slack direct message, following your delivery channels. See Announcements and notifications.
Tip: If a task's event is canceled, you'll see a note on the task, and reminders pause until a leader reviews it.
Once a leader closes or cancels a task, you can still open it to see what happened, but you can't make changes.
