Borrowing gear

Request unit equipment and see what you’ve borrowed.

This guide is for parents and guardians. It covers the Gear page, where you see the pack equipment you've borrowed and ask to borrow more.

The Gear page appears in the menu only if your pack uses the equipment feature. Leaders keep track of the gear itself; see Equipment if you're the one managing it.

See the gear you have

Open Gear from the menu. The page lists the pack equipment checked out to you or your family, with these columns:

  • Item: what you borrowed.
  • How many: the number of that item you have.
  • Due back: the date to return it, or No date set. Anything past its due date is marked Overdue.
  • For: the event the gear was lent for, if any.
  • Checked out to: the person in your family the gear is listed under.

If nothing is checked out, you'll see No gear checked out. Gear shows up here once a leader checks it out to you or your family, and it leaves the list when they check it back in.

Ask to borrow gear

You can request any item your pack has made available to families. If your pack hasn't made any gear available yet, the page says so and there's no request button.

  1. On the Gear page, select Request gear.
  2. If the gear is for an event, choose it under For an event (optional). Only upcoming events are listed. Picking one fills in its dates for you. Leave it on Not for an event otherwise.
  3. Set the First day and Last day you need the gear. Dates start from today.
  4. Under What you’d like to borrow, enter how many of each item you want. Each item shows its photo (if there is one), category, how many the pack owns, and its condition. Leave the rest blank.
  5. Add anything the leader should know under Notes (optional), such as when you can pick it up.
  6. Select Send request.

You need to choose at least one item. If some of an item may already be out on your dates, you'll see a note like "Only 2 may be free on these dates." You can still send the request, and the leader will sort it out.

Tip: Request gear well ahead of a campout so a leader has time to review it and arrange pickup.

Follow your requests

Below your gear, Your requests lists everything you've asked for, with the items, dates, and event. Each request shows its status:

  • Waiting for review: a leader hasn't decided yet.
  • Approved: a leader approved it, and the gear is now checked out to you, so it also appears in your gear list above.
  • Declined: a leader turned it down.
  • Cancelled: you cancelled it.

If the leader added a note when they decided, it appears as Leader’s note on the request.

When you send a request, the leaders who manage equipment are told about it. When a leader approves or declines it, you get a notification, sent by email or Slack according to your notification settings, that includes the leader's note if they added one. It links back to your Gear page.

Cancel a request

You can cancel a request while it's still Waiting for review.

  1. Select Cancel request next to it.
  2. Confirm with Cancel request.

The leaders won't see it anymore. If your plans change again, just send a new request.

Keep your pack on the same page.

Start with your pack’s details and choose the tools that make sense for you.
