Getting started

Set up your unit

Join the waitlist, create your unit, and work through the first setup steps.

This guide walks the person creating a pack's ScoutKeep workspace through signing up and the first setup steps. You'll become the pack's owner, with access to every leader tool and setting.

Join the waitlist

Self-serve signup isn't open yet, so new packs start on the waitlist.

  1. Go to the signup page. You'll see Signup opens soon.
  2. Enter Your name and Email address.
  3. Choose Pack as the Unit type, and add your Unit number (optional).
  4. Use Anything we should know? (optional) to tell us about your pack.
  5. Select Join the waitlist.

When your spot is ready, you'll get an email called "Your ScoutKeep invite is ready." Select Set up my pack in that email to start signup. The link works once and expires on the date shown in the email, and it only works with the email address it was sent to. If the link has expired or was already used, the signup page will say so and let you join the waitlist again.

Create your pack

Signup takes a few short steps. You can go back to earlier steps at any time before you finish.

  1. On Tell us about your unit, choose Pack as the Unit type, enter your Unit number, and choose Who can join: Co-ed unit, Boys unit, or Girls unit. Select Continue.
  2. On What would you like help with?, check the things that matter to your pack, such as Organizing volunteers or Tracking balances and payments. ScoutKeep turns on the matching features. If you're not sure, select Skip — start with all features.
  3. On Review your unit, check your details and the list of Features to enable. You can still check or uncheck features here. Families, dens, and the portal calendar are always included. Select Continue to your account.
  4. On Start with your email, enter your email address and select Send code. If you came from an invite email, your address is already filled in. Type the six-digit code from your inbox and select Verify email. If you're already signed in to ScoutKeep, you'll just confirm the account you're using instead.
  5. On Finish setting up your account, enter your name, agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and select the button at the bottom to create your pack.

When you see Welcome to ScoutKeep., select Open my unit dashboard. You'll also get a welcome email with your pack's portal address. Keep it so you can find your portal again.

Tip: Nothing is public until you choose to publish it, so you can set things up at your own pace.

Set up your family

The first time you open the portal, ScoutKeep asks you to Set up your family, because leaders are parents too.

  1. Enter your family name, your name, and your phone number.
  2. Enter your Scout's name and choose their den. Your pack starts with a den for each Cub Scout rank, from Lion to Arrow of Light.
  3. Select Create family.

You can add more Scouts and invite another parent later from My Family.

Find the leader tools

Use the switch at the top of the portal to move between My Family, which is what every parent sees, and Manage Pack, where the leader tools live. Manage Pack opens on your leader Dashboard. Pack-wide settings are under Settings, in the Pack settings group.

Work through your first setup steps

These are the most useful first steps. Each one has its own guide.

  1. Check your unit details. Under Settings, open Unit details. Confirm the Unit name and add your Chartered organization (optional) and Council (optional). The council is filled in on families' health forms. Select Save unit details. You can also upload your pack's logo here.
  2. Set your timezone. Open Calendar under Settings. Choose your Unit timezone and select Save timezone so event times show correctly.
  3. Connect your calendar. On the same page, paste your calendar's link and select Save and check calendar. Your events appear in the portal. See Move your pack to ScoutKeep.
  4. Review your features. Open Features to turn tools on or off. Turning a feature off hides it but keeps its data. See Unit settings and features.
  5. Bring in your leaders and families. Add the adults who help run the pack, give them roles, and invite families. See Adults, roles, and permissions and Managing families and Scouts.
  6. Add optional extras. Connect Slack under Integrations (Connecting Slack), or set up your pack website under the Website group (Your pack website). Both are optional, and you can come back to them anytime.

Keep your pack on the same page.

Start with your pack’s details and choose the tools that make sense for you.
