Your family home

What needs your attention, the setup checklist, and the next two weeks.

Your family home is the first page you see after you sign in to the family portal. It gathers everything that needs you right now, a short setup checklist for new families, and what's on the calendar for the next two weeks. This guide is for parents and guardians.

You can get back to it anytime from Home in the portal menu.

Find your way around the menu

The portal menu groups its pages into sections such as Activities, Communication, My family, and People. To keep the menu short, only the section for the page you're on starts open. The other sections start folded up. Select a section's name to open it and see its pages, and select it again to fold it away. The portal remembers which sections you open or fold on this device.

What's at the top

The page greets you by name and shows your pack's name underneath. Below that, the home page is arranged from most urgent to least:

  1. Your newest unread announcement, if there is one.
  2. The Finish getting set up checklist, while you still have steps left.
  3. Needs your attention, the list of things waiting on your family.
  4. This week and Next week, your upcoming events.

Tip: If you see No family connected, your sign-in isn't linked to a family yet. Ask a leader to connect you to your family.

Read the newest announcement

When a leader sends an announcement you haven't read, it appears at the top of the page marked New, with who sent it and when.

  • Choose Got it to mark it read. The next unread announcement, if any, takes its place.
  • Choose Read more to open the full announcement.
  • If the announcement asks you to confirm you've read it, you'll see Read and acknowledge instead. Open it and acknowledge it there.

If you have more unread announcements, a link such as 2 more unread takes you to your inbox. Announcements appear here only if your pack uses them. See Announcements and notifications for more.

Finish getting set up

New families see a Finish getting set up card with a progress count, like 3 of 7 done. The steps include joining your pack's community, checking and bookmarking the calendar, completing health forms, adding an emergency contact, choosing what the member directory shows, completing registration and dues, and signing in to Scoutbook.

  • Check off a step yourself when you've done it. You can uncheck it again if you need to.
  • Two steps check themselves off once you finish them: adding an emergency contact with a name and phone number, and choosing what the member directory shows. Use the Open link next to one of these to go to your family page and do it.
  • The health forms step is the same as Mark as turned in on the Health forms page. Checking either one tells your leaders your forms are turned in for this school year.
  • Finished steps move into a Done group at the bottom of the card.

Once every step is checked, the card stays for the rest of that visit and then no longer appears. Steps for health forms and the member directory appear only if your pack uses those features.

Handle what needs your attention

Needs your attention lists everything waiting on your family, with the soonest deadline first. Each item has a badge showing when it's due (for example Due tomorrow, Due Fri, or Overdue) and one button to take care of it:

  • RSVP for an upcoming event that hasn't heard from you yet. This opens the RSVP form right on the page.
  • Register or Pay for an event that requires registration or payment.
  • Answer for an open survey.
  • Acknowledge for an announcement that asks you to confirm you've read it.
  • Open for a volunteer task assigned to you.
  • Pay for your family's balance, which takes you to your statement.

When nothing needs you, you'll see You're all set. Nothing needs you right now. Surveys, tasks, and payments show up only if your pack uses those features.

See what's coming up

Below your to-do list, This week and Next week show your pack's events with where your family stands on each:

  • Going or Maybe, with how many people from your family are coming.
  • Not going.
  • RSVP needed if you haven't answered yet. You'll find the RSVP button for it in Needs your attention.
  • No RSVP needed for calendar entries nobody signs up for, like a school holiday.
  • Registered, Registration needed, or Payment due for events that use registration.
  • Cancelled if the event was called off.

If you've already answered, choose Edit RSVP (or Edit registration) to change your answer. Select an event's name to open its full page.

If nothing is scheduled in the next two weeks, Coming up shows the next event on the calendar instead. Choose Full calendar to see everything. For more on answering and changing RSVPs, see Calendar and RSVPs.
